QuiltCon 2020 Charity Quilt Challenge
The 2020 design theme is text. Quilts incorporating text have been popular in the modern quilt movement right from the start.Each quilt should include at least one word and it should be a central design element in the composition. Of course, you can use text fabrics too!
SCHEDULE August meeting: Two designs due for guild vote; online or website voting open until August 30. September - first of month, purchase fabric or secure fabric donations - cut fabric and assemble block kits ready to distribute at September 21st meeting. September-October 19th - piece quilt blocks; all blocks due by October 19th meeting. November - Assembled quit top due by November 16th meeting. January - Finished quilting by January 18, 2020 meeting. February - Binding completed by February 1, 2020. Finished quilt due in Austin by February 8, 2020. TEAMS NEEDED Design (4-5 people) This team will develop two quilt top designs to be presented to the guild. The team can include several who can determine fabric requirements and write pattern instructions. Fabric This team will be responsible for procuring the fabric, cutting the fabric and assembling the kits to distribute to the guild. This team will also be responsible for procuring the batting, backing (Janet Cassiani has idea for backing material), and binding material. Piecing This team (open to all) will be responsible for piecing the quilt blocks. Assembly This team (can be more than one person) is responsible for assembling the quilt top. Quilting (one member) Binding (one member) Several individuals have already expressed an interest in helping. We welcome and encourage everyone to be a part. An online sign-up is on its way.
